DIY Sugar Scrub With Coconut, Vanilla, and Brown Sugar

Learn to make this amazing DIY sugar scrub with coconut, vanilla, and brown sugar – great for exfoliation, moisturizing, and practicing self-care.

I looooove homemade sugar scrubs!

Especially living in the Midwest, where the colder weather can really nip the moisture right from your skin, sugar scrubs are like magic for exfoliating dry, dead skin and replenishing moisture.

Plus, they smell amazing!

I’ve made plenty of sugar scrub combinations over the years, experimenting with different scent combinations, oil to sugar ratios, and ways of mixing them – but this recipe is my favorite.

It’s super simple to make, only requires three ingredients, and makes a wonderful self-care treat or homemade gift for a friend or family member!

I know there are tons of white sugar scrubs on Pinterest, and those are probably really good recipes (I haven’t tried them so I couldn’t say), but this recipe uses brown sugar.

“Why brown sugar?”, you might ask.

Well, I went to make myself a homemade sugar scrub one day but discovered I was out of white sugar.

I always seem to have brown sugar on hand so I decided to just roll with it! And the result was amazing.

While I still love making white sugar scrubs, this brown sugar edition is in my top three for sure.

It does a wonderful job moisturizing my skin and an even better job with exfoliating and moisturizing lips!

In this post, I’m sharing this simple recipe with you, as well as some free printable labels you can apply to your own jars to give as gifts…

How To Make DIY Sugar Scrub

This DIY sugar scrub is super easy to make, and uses only three ingredients!

Here’s what you need to make this brown sugar scrub recipe:

Pour one cup of brown sugar into a bowl.

Add in 1/3 cup of extra virgin coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Mix ingredients together with a fork until fully combined.

Here are the jars I used to put the sugar scrub in – you can grab my free printable labels that fit the lids at the bottom of this post!

Scoop sugar scrub into a jar and close the lid.

Dress jar with a label and a string with a scoop on it for easy gift-giving!

This recipe makes up enough sugar scrub to fill a 4 oz. jar.

How To Use Sugar Scrub

Aren’t these scoops adorable?

They’re the perfect size, and have a hole in the handle you can feed a piece of string through so you can attach them to your jars for easy gifting!

This sugar scrub is great for exfoliating and moisturizing dead, dry skin.

To use, simply use a spoon, scoop, or clean fingers to grab a quarter-sized amount of sugar scrub and apply to the desired area.

If using for the lips, just a small finger swipe of scrub will do!

Rub sugar scrub in circles gently against the skin to remove dead skin.

Soft, supple, refreshed skin will be revealed!

I would definitely say that this scrub is best used in the shower or when operating a foot bath for best results.

Be sure to close the lid on the jar when you are done using it to prevent introducing bacteria.

Free DIY Sugar Scrub Printable labels

If you are using cute 4 oz. jars like I am in this post to give to friends and family, I’ve included some free printable labels that you can print and apply to your finished sugar scrub jars!

You will want to print these labels off onto solid white sticker paper and use scissors to cut each circle out.

Remove the backing of the sticker paper and simply apply to the jar’s lid.

You can also attach a small scoop to the lip using a string, thread, yarn, jute, or ribbon to make an adorable gift!
