Hello, lovelies!

I’m so excited to help feature the new January subscription box from Simply Earth.

This month’s box features some really fun recipes, including a recipe for a homemade deodorant.

If you’re new here, I love essential oils!

I love using them for things like cleaning, diffusing, and creating fun new recipes.

I recently tested the antibacterial properties of one oil to see how well it cleaned – I even pulled out the Petri dishes and was so amazed at the results.

Essential oils never cease to amaze me.

I don’t think they are a cure-all, but they are absolutely astonishing when you put them to work.

Since finding Simply Earth, I’ve learned so much about essential oils and all the different ways we can use them.

I mentioned this in previous blog posts, but as a company, Simply Earth gets 5 stars from me.

From their willingness to educate their customers and subscribers on the proper use of their oils to donating 13% of their profits to help end human trafficking – they are a group of incredible women.

Plus, they offer 100% pure oils at honest prices, have all of their 3rd-party GC/MS test results online, and only source their oils ethically from where they grow best.

Simply Earth is also NOT an MLM.

How To Make Homemade Deodorant With Essential Oils

In the January 2021 subscription box from Simply Earth, there’s a recipe to help you make natural deodorant, featuring their B.O. Be Gone essential oil blend.

I’ll be making this recipe with you here in the post as well as on my Instagram stories – be sure to follow me over there for monthly Simply Earth unboxings and to see me make recipes from the box!

For this DIY natural deodorant recipe, I needed to use the zinc oxide and deodorant tube from the box, as well as the B.O. Be Gone essential oil blend.

I also needed some common household extras that were not included in the box…

  • solid coconut oil
  • baking soda
  • corn starch
  • beeswax*

*For new Simply Earth subscribers, Simply Earth sends their BIG BONUS BOX for free along with your first order and then with every 6th order, which includes approximately $45 worth of extras like roll-on bottles, beeswax, essential oil bottles, etc. to help you make your monthly recipes!

First, the recipe called for coconut oil and beeswax.

I always have multiple jars of solid coconut oil stashed in our pantry, and still had a bunch of beeswax leftover from my BIG BONUS BOX stash

Once I measured out my coconut oil and beeswax, I followed the instructions on the recipe card and melted them together in a homemade double boiler.

I melt my ingredients by putting about one inch of water in a small pot and placing a slightly larger metal bowl over top.

The water in the pot will be heated underneath the bowl, and the ingredients are placed in the bowl, not the pot.

This is really effective for me, but as always, I urge my readers to be careful around heat.

The coconut oil melted very fast, however, the beeswax took a little bit longer…

Here’s an action shot of the water gently boiling in the pot beneath my metal bowl on top…

Note that I am using an oven mitt to lift the bowl up to protect my hands.

Once the beeswax had melted in with the coconut oil, it was time to add in the essential oil drops.

Simply Earth’s homemade deodorant recipe calls for 30 drops of their B.O. Be Gone essential oil blend.

Once I dispensed the 30 full drops, I gently mixed the oils in with a spoon.

Now it was time for the dry ingredients (corn starch, baking soda, and zinc oxide).

I started off by mixing in a tablespoon of zinc oxide, as the recipe dictates.

Here’s what the oil mixture looks like with zinc oxide mixed in…

I then slowly added in the corn starch and baking soda, stirring them in.

The recipe card for this DIY deodorant warns that adding in the dry ingredients may cause the mixture to harden quickly, so it may need to be placed back on the heat to help melt and mix it all together.

I needed to add mine to heat for an extra minute, and then I was done!

Once I was done with my natural deodorant recipe, it was time to pour it in the biodegradable container that came in this month’s Simply Earth subscription box.

Ta-da!

I made my own homemade deodorant, guys!

It smells amazing, and I’ll be keeping you guys updated on how well it works through the next few weeks (I’ll be sure to update this post as well for those of you who aren’t as active on Instagram).

I filled my container up to the very top, as you can see below…

I accidentally dripped some over the side while pouring, and then tried to wipe it away.

No worries, though. 😉

Once I let the deodorant cool down, I added the cap to the container and one of the sticker labels that came in the subscription box.

Today is the first day I’m using and trying out natural deodorant with essential oils, but so far so good!

I haven’t noticed any funk so far, and my skin doesn’t seem to mind the deodorant mixture.

Which is really nice, because I have pretty sensitive skin.

I thought about posting a picture of me applying it to my pits – but I figured you guys could use your imagination on that one!

It’s not the most flattering thing to do in front of the camera, and I’m sure you guys are more interested in learning about how easy it is to make and how well it works.

As I mentioned above, I will keep you guys updated on my experience and how well it’s working out, but this was such a fun DIY recipe to make with essential oils.
